About
NAKEY BABY was developed by Deva Overman, graduate of the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, with an A.A. in Product Development, Cum Laude. After years of dealing with overcompensating-trying-too-hard-for-attention women who shop in various boutiques that Deva has worked in as manager/sales expert, Deva wanted to put a stop to questions such as "Do I Look Fat?"; "Does this Look too MATCHY MATCHY?"; "Does it look like I'm Trying too Hard?" Most of the time the answer was yes!!! So after less than four glamorously sexy years Overman left her buying job, all of her loving peers, and co-workers at Fred Segal Trend Women to create her own sleek and chic contemporary women’s line.
It started in the hot and sexy summer weather of July 2008, Deva, lounging on her breezy Santa Monica deck was getting a little too hot for all those long sleeved and pullover stuffy tops. Later, as the temperature dropped, it was then too cold for tank tops and typical halters. Deva decided to make a shirt that was perfect!!!! Not just perfect, but perfect for any occasion, temperatures, holidays, not to mention just for prêt-à-porter every day. This lovely asymmetrical amazing and fantastic blouse comes in any fabric, color, and size: washed cashmere in creamy cream, wooly wool/lucre in charcoal grey, seductive silks from the Far East in midnight blue, and many many more. Stylish, yet, chic there is no way to look cheap in this beautiful exquisite piece. Also Deva Overman offers a small line of exotic seal-the-deal boy shorts with original Anime-inspired little Bears, Bees, Cupcakes, Watermelons, and Lady Bugs that are too cute to resist by any good looking boy. These too can be worn anytime, except in cold weather: "Wear at own Risk due to excess Attention."
Overman couldn’t stop there, a few months later Overman blessed the world with easy to wear and easy to access unusual silk dresses, pleated one pocket skirts, backless jersey/silk gowns, long sleeved 80’s inspired dolman tops, shirred off-shoulder 90’s inspired mini skin tight dresses, and so much more.
Incorporating Overman’s love of house and electronic music and L.A. night life she began wearing many of her designs out all over town to the events that her local DJ friends asked her to attend. This is where Overman got her inspiration and began having her photo-shoots at all the amazing parties where the energy was high and everyone around watched Overman’s eye for fashion grow.
“I wanted to make clothing that I could look beautiful and elegant in while staying cool so as not to melt because I got too hot from dancing. I looked for subtle light fabrics and loose shapes. I want to throw on a dress, or a skirt, or a shirt and feel amazing without trying. That is my ultimate goal. I think that by now I have an idea of what women want....so you're welcome."
